About the site

This is a private information page about electrical temperature measurement with resistance thermometers (e.g. Pt100, Pt500, Pt1000). My experiences of many years in the field of measurement and control technology are recorded. I do not take over any liability for incorrect information and would be pleased about further suggestions and requests for additions.

Harald Peters – Specialist author for temperature measurement technology

Harald Peters

Brief profile

Harald Peters is a specialist author focusing on temperature measurement technology and industrial sensor technology.
For many years, he has been working intensively with resistance thermometers, in particular Pt100 and Pt1000 sensors, their physical principles, measurement accuracy, standardization, and practical application in industry and technology.

On pt100.de, he publishes in-depth technical articles, calculation aids, and technical explanations for engineers, technicians, trainees, and users in industrial practice.

Education

Harald Peters holds a degree in chemical process engineering.
His studies focused on inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry, measurement and control technology, thermal and mechanical process engineering, analytical methods, laboratory practice, and chemical reaction mechanisms.

This training formed the basis for professional activities ranging from chemical laboratories and chemical production plants to chemical plant engineering.

Professional career

After working in battery research at Varta Batterie AG and commissioning chemical production plants in Germany and abroad (Metallgesellschaft AG / Lurgi), Harald Peters has been involved in the development, manufacture, and sale of measuring and control devices for flow, temperature, pressure, and level since 1985 (including Kobold Messring , SIKA Dr. Siebert & Kühn GmbH & Co. KG).

In this industry, he has worked as a sales engineer, product manager, marketing and sales manager, and managing director, among other positions, and has acquired comprehensive knowledge of the development, application, problem solving, and marketing of measurement and control technology.

Most recently, Harald Peters was managing director of Kobold Holding Ges.m.b.H in Vienna, where he was responsible for 25 companies worldwide belonging to the Kobold Group.
Through various M&A activities, he has gained a comprehensive overview of the companies operating in the industrial sensor technology market.
He was also a member of the Foreign Trade Committee of the Frankfurt am Main Chamber of Industry and Commerce, covering a wide range of industries.

Technical focus in temperature measurement

  • Pt100 and Pt1000 resistance thermometers
  • Temperature measurement in industry and laboratories
  • Measurement accuracy, tolerance classes, and sources of error
  • Standards and guidelines (e.g., IEC 60751)
  • Calibration and comparison of temperature sensors
  • Calculation of characteristic curves and measured values
  • Suppliers and current trade fairs

Experience

Harald Peters has decades of practical and theoretical experience in measurement and control technology. His areas of expertise are flow, temperature, pressure, and level measurement.

The published content is based on theoretical principles as well as real industrial applications, typical practical problems, and proven solutions from the technical field.

  • Technically accurate and comprehensible explanations
  • Standard-compliant presentation
  • Practical applications
  • Comprehensible presentation of complex interrelationships

Since the introduction of electronic product catalogs (1993, Catalogic / Hoppenstedt), Harald Peters has been intensively involved in the digitization of technical product information. The electronic catalogs of the companies SIKA, Kobold Messring, and Interin, which were precursors to today's websites, were created by him in collaboration with software developers and distributed worldwide in multiple languages in hundreds of thousands of copies.
